Mark Schwartz has over 50 years of experience repairing and restoring bowed stringed instruments.
Mark began in 1972 as an apprentice with European Violin Maker Paul Schuback at his Luthier School in Portland, Oregon. Since that time, Mark has owned and operated bowed string repair shops in Ann Arbor and in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He has also operated a string repair shop for the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Michigan since 1974. He is renowned for his innovative approaches to traditional repair and restoration in a multi-state region. Mark is highly respected by professional players in major symphony orchestras.
Mark received his bachelor’s degree in music performance in Double Bass from the University of Michigan in 1969. He performed with the orchestras at the Interlochen Arts Camp. In addition, he has performed with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra and Flint Symphony Orchestra.
As a seasoned musician, Mark has a deep understanding of the needs and requirements of musicians and their instructors. Mark’s philosophy has always been about putting the customer first and offering the best solution based on a customer’s budget.
