Jane Ball, Master Instructor

Jane Ellen Ball has worked for Mark Schwartz Violins for ten years learning to repair and care for stringed instruments. She has taught Violin, Viola and Cello for close to 50 years and has brought her Teaching Studio to Mark Schwartz Violins so that students have an all-encompassing experience of taking lessons, being able to play with various instruments and bows, looking through sheet music, and watching the luthiers repair and maintain the instruments.

Jane graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with a Bachelor of Music Education and a minor in Strings. She is an accomplished cellist and educator, a certified Suzuki Teacher, certified in the Rolland Pedagogy, and founder and Musical Director of Simply Strings Orchestra. She has taught Strings in the public schools in Troy, Ohio and Okemos, Michigan.

Mrs. Ball founded the Simply Strings Orchestra in conjunction with the Fenton Community Orchestra. Simply Strings is designed for adults who have had some experience with a private teacher.  The group plays intermediate level music and performs at concerts with the Fenton Community Orchestra as well as other locations, including outdoors, in the summer.

Peter Kent, Instructor

Peter Kent has played violin professionally for over 20 years and is a consistent performing member in several orchestras in Michigan including the Midland Symphony and Saginaw Symphony. Peter is also an accomplished fiddler specializing in Irish, American Civil War, and Bluegrass styles. In addition to performing, he also holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in violin performance from Oakland University and Michigan State University and has had extensive training in MSU’s doctoral program. He is currently an apprentice, learning the art of violin repair under Mark Schwartz at Mark Schwartz Violin’s.

Mark Swartz is a great guy, and his employees are exceptional. Everyone there goes above and beyond. It's very much appreciated in this family.

Mark is the "best friend" to every string player in the area. Not only does he do excellent work on every instrument he handles Mark CARES about all of the students. His staff is wonderful as well. In an emergency, Mark always saves the day! We have been coming to Mark for more than 10 years and consider him a friend! Thanks Mark

Mark Schwartz Violins is the greatest place I have every shopped. The people who work there are the most talented and friendly musicians you will every meet. But what makes the difference for me is that they love to help people and will go out of their way to make you successful and happy with your instrument. Special orders are no problem.

This place is a best kept secret for Michigan musicians. Mark is definitely a Master craftsman and his repair work is outstanding. The shop has a great vibe and there is always Music or Baseball in the air. The people who work there are the nicest and most caring people on the planet. Skip Marshalls, Shar, and Psarianos this place is the BEST!
